Whilst browsing through old Gazettes (1919 to 1938), which have kindly been loaned to me by William Prichard, I have uncovered some interesting facts that I was unaware of:
- Until 1925 teams in the Inter Counties had to have mixed pairs.
- Until 1925 the winning county was the one with the most game wins and not match wins. So in 1925 Somerset won 8 matches (16 games), but were placed behind Surrey who had 7 match wins (20 games). Somerset actually finished 4th, which seems crazy now.
- In some years if teams were tied at the top they had a best of nine play off where all three pairs of one county played all three pairs from the other.
