The 2000 European Championships, held in Jersey and sponsored by HSBC bank, were won by Stephen Mulliner of England, who defeated 20 year old local player Matthew Burrow in a very exciting final that went to three games. Matthew, who had taken the first game by 26 looked to be in with a great chance of winning the title for the first time when he laid up on penult and peg with Stephen's 4 back ball at penult and his hoop 1 ball at rover. However Stephen hit the lift and finished with a delayed triple. 4 back was peeled before 3 back and he finished with a straight double to take the European title for the 6th time.
Paul Duckworth of Jersey finished third when he beat Tony Mrozinski of Wales in the third place play off.
