Fire destroyed the clubhouse at Hunstanton on 28 September at 3:30AM

The fire was caused by vandals and the police are investigating. According to the local newspaper the fire was one in a spate of attacks locally that started with burning rubbish skips and progressed through the cricket club scoreboard (£14,000) through the croquet club pavilion (£50,000).

The pavilion is owned by the club and was not well insured due to the cost and perceived low likelihood of complete loss. It had stood there since 1911 and was an Edwardian building with real character.

William Prichard immediately suggested a whip-round "This is extremely sad news. Assuming that the insurance won't cover the cost of a rebuild and equipping, (note not using the term re-equipping) perhaps a whip round will be required from those who can afford it or feel rather attached to Hunstanton croquet club. I for one would be happy to contribute and/or co-ordinate such a venture. Can anyone steer me in the right direction?"
