By stretching the eastern part of the journeying, Surbiton was deemed to be half way (with a BBQ offered)! With Medway having to enlist a handicap 9 with no advanced play experience, the advantage appeared to lie with Bristol. In practice, Phillip made his opponents work hard.
Having shown little resistance in the morning (two down and one pegged down), Bristol dominated the first two hours of the afternoon, although Rodney had loosened Hamish's early grip. The score became 2 -2, with every prospect of 3 -3 and Bristol not home until midnight. But Robert adopted the mantle of the death defyer, and prevented Rosemary from improving from rover and penult, and pegged out despite starting from one and six. 4 - 2 to Medway, but minus fingernails!
