As the Swindon team crossed the Severn bridge into Wales, sunny skies changed to clouds and showers. However, any thoughts of omens were dismissed as Cliff Cardis scored the first point for the visitors. Swindon never looked back, and chalked up a second singles victory before their hosts pulled a point back in the doubles, leaving Swindon 2-1 ahead at lunch.

Cliff Cardis obeyed the lunchtime team talk - "same again this afternoon, Cliff!" - to the letter, registering the first point of the afternoon session with the same score as his morning match.

The matches involving the team captains were almost mirror images of each other. Swindon's Ian Megaw raced into an early lead against David Scott, but failed with his rover peel attempt, leaving his clips on peg and rover and his opponent yet to score, while Dyffryn's Sue Mackay was looking to inspire her team by building a similar lead against Swindon's John Airey. Both Scott and Airey hit in and proceeded to pull back the deficit, but both failed to finish the match, leaving first Mackay and then Megaw to complete wins and each breathe a sigh of relief.

Di Trott made full use of the time available and capped off a good result for Swindon by pegging out to beat Marian Clancy as time was called.
