Bury beat Nottingham 4-3

[<<] [>>] by Geoff Young
13th August 2006 (AC - Longman Cup)

In the morning session Tony Phillips gave Bury first blood with a convincing win over William Gee, and a little later Paul Kenworthy beat Michael Finnigan by a distance. The doubles was more dour, the Nottingham pair of Martin Beacon and Nigel Hames-Keward taking a modest early lead, until Barbara Young made a good break to 4 back. Geoff Young took a hoop here and another there with little response, and at time Bury were 8 ahead.

Star feature of the afternoon was two great breaks by William. His rover peelee stuck, but after a jumped hoop he used the other two balls to pick it up for a peg out, then a front ball miss delayed his victory for three turns. Nigel pegged out somewhat later for a good victory over Tony. Michael, playing much better than in the morning, completed a win over Geoff, so all depended on the game between Martin and Tony. At time, Tony had a slender two point lead to give the visitors the match.
