The 2000 Student Croquet Championships

[<<] [>>] by Jenny Williams at Oxford University
25th June 2000 (AC - Championships)

Despite both events being played to a 2.5 hour time limit, only two games did not finish before time expired.

Thanks to Alan Oldham and Hamish Hall of the Croquet Association who attended the finals and to Alan for presenting the winners' trophies.

Sam Tudor didn't defend his singles title - but also didn't return his trophy (!)

Lawns in great condition, strawberries and cream on Saturday superb, and thanks very much to James for turning up early each morning to set the hoops.

Peels: Death: 1 QP, 4 TP, and assorted SXP, QP, TP attempts, also managing to finish most games within 30-60 minutes ensured the block matches were completed before dark on Saturday.

Sponsored by The Croquet Association and Oxford University Croquet Club

Manager and Secretary: John Taylor, President OUCC
ROT: James Death

Participants from Oxford University unless otherwise stated.

Event 2: The Students' Team Championship, held on 23 June
There were only 3 teams entered in the team competition this year (Chris Dent (Loughborough) and Phil Livermore (Oxford) also played in the round robin, though their games did not count towards the final placings.

With two lawns and one day to play, all teams played each other. Inevitably A beat B beat C beat B - hence the winners were selected on net points scored.

Teams:
A: Cambridge: Jonathan & Paul Kirby
B: Oxford: Gabrielle Higgins and Jack Bertram
C: Oxford: Jenny Williams and John Taylor

Results:
A beat B +13T
B beat C +16
C beat A +8

Based on net points, the winners of the Students' Team Championship, and the Edmund Reeve Cup for 2000 are Cambridge University.
