This was the first tournament of this size that the club has ever held and a lot has been learnt over the preceding months.

24 players took part and as was hoped it proved to be truly an International event with 1 Australian, 3 Italians, 2 Germans, 2 Belgians and the balance made up of British players. Ages ranged from 18 up to !!!!, no one is admitting to the upper limit.

The club's aim was to base the event on the World Championships and so we had score boards with scorers, ball boys (persons for the politically correct) and referees for each lawn resplendent in blazers and baseball caps.

There was a tent for the ball boys and a marquee for the players to enjoy non stop teas and coffees and a running buffet to keep the energy levels up. On the Saturday evening players, sponsors, dignitaries and club members joined together for a BBQ.

The games were played in 4 blocks of 6 with the first and second going through on the Sunday to a knockout and the remaining players were paired up for a doubles event.

Three of the lawns had been re-laid over the winter and although they are now level they will need a bit of time to bed in.

The winner of the singles was Robert Fulford after two exciting games against John Moore and the doubles was won by Koen Heidbuchel, from Belgium, and Derek Old who were victorious against Sam Curry and Malcolm Gibson.

Thanks must go to all the club members who gave both time and valuable sponsorship of ball boys and food, etc. and a special mention of Marion Hof who sponsored the prize money and proved to be a driving force in getting the tournament up and running .
