Roger Staples (Middlesbrough) won the Midweek Handicap Tournament at the Tyneside Club, beating Alice Fleck (Belsay) +18.

The format used for the event was two blocks of six players, followed by a play off between the top two players from each block to establish the tournament winner. Surprisingly the two block winners, Alan Thwaite (Tyneside ) and Howard Bowron (Penrith) both lost their semi final matches, leaving Alice Fleck (Belsay ) and Roger Staples (Middlesbrough) to contest the final. Roger played much more controlled croquet on an increasingly fast court and deservedly won the match +18.
Having now acquired the use of a third Bowling Green, Tyneside Croquet Club were able to increase the size of their tournament to twelve entries.
