Ian Morrison won the Centre Stage Final

Ian Morrison won the Centre Stage Final 2008.

Ian Morrison from Lansdowne Croquet Club beat Dan Ellis from Eynsham 7-2 in the final of The Centre Stage Golf Croquet Competition. In the semi-finals, Dan had beaten Ian's fellow club member, Dave Key Pugh by 7-1 and Ian won his game against Chris Howell from Bury St Edmunds also by 7-1.

The closely fought games were played in excellent spirit due in no small part, I'm sure, to the glorious weather with which we were blessed.

The twelve finalists, whose ages ranged from 16 to 70 something (politeness prevents me from being more accurate!) were whittled down from 55 entrants from 9 clubs around the country. It would be good to see more clubs entering this enjoyable competiton next year.

The Centre Stage Competition which is for middle range players (handicap 4-9) is played as a series of club events with possible regional finals culminating in the final which this year was held at the Northampton Croquet Club on Sunday September 14th.

My thanks go to Nick Evans from the Northampton Croquet Club for all his help and hard work and to all the finalists whose good nature and enthusiasm enabled the day run smoothly and enjoyably.
