Ivor Brand won the Sidmouth Golf Croquet Tournament

[<<] [>>] by Nigel Graves at Sidmouth
27th April 2009 (GC)

Top seed Ivor Brand won the Sidmouth Golf Croquet Tournament, but there was little doubt in anyone's mind that the player of the tournament was the runner-up, Ryan Cabble from Nailsea, aged just sixteen and yet to complete his GCSEs. It was almost with reluctance that Ivor took the thirteenth hoop to win the final 7-3 4-7 7-6.

There was a full entry of sixteen players, divided into two blocks of eight. On Saturday, with a stiff and chilly breeze blowing in off the sea, seven rounds of all-play-all block play were completed, with the top four in each block going through to a three round best- of-three knockout the following day. For the other eight players there was a progressive flexible Swiss event, won by Tim King with 4/6 from Tom Weston and Freda Vitty, each with 3/5.
