(World Championship)
And the Qualifiers Are...
The WCF Qualifier ended with six players advancing to the World Championship. The players making it to the main event are:
Charlie Gillmarten | 13 wins |
Greg Fletcher | 12 wins, 2tps |
Paul Billings | 11 wins |
Stuart Lawrence | 11 wins, 3tps |
Peter Just | 10 wins |
Malcolm Fletcher | 6 wins |
After making the cut, Nelson Morrow (11 wins, 1tp) had to withdraw. As a result, Tony Hall (8 wins) was the next in line but declined his spot due to commitments to the event in his refereeing capacity as did the next in line Rhys Thomas (7 wins). This gave the sixth spot to Malcolm Fletcher and put all three Fletcher brothers into the main event.

Keep Up to Date
Samir Patel wrote from the plane on his way over on Thursday 7th May:
The second wave of GB players travel today (there are at least 4 on this plane), to join those who flew to the heat on Tuesday..
I say heat, since forecasts are even hotter than expected, almost 30 degrees, and high humidity. Stamina in that weather will be important.
The "big 2" of Fulford and Bamford both won their warm up tournaments (Westerns and Coles), but current champion Chris Clarke looks to be in solid form from his new home in New Zealand.
Reports are that the lawns are playing at 12 seconds, and that the new "super hoops" are holding up well. Unfortunately, this event will be missing some of the top Kiwis (due to cost) and Egyptians (due to Swine Flu), but is still shaping up to be a great event.
No doubt there will be regular, blow-by-blow, posting to the Nottingham List, along with much analysis and discussion. If you haven't subscribed yet, it's easy - go to nottingham-lists.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/croquet - if that's all too much chatter, the significant news will be summarised here.
