Ripon Spa Croquet Club will attempt World Record

[<<] [>>] by Helen Lain at Ripon Spa CC
10th August 2011 (GC)

Starting at 6am on Monday 15th August 2011 Maggie Cowman and seven other members are going to make an attempt at playing a continuous 48 hour game of golf croquet at The Ripon Spa Hotel.

If all goes well they will, play singles, two at a time for two-hour slots in rotation throughout the period ending at 6am on Wednesday 17th August. If they achieve their aim we believe they will create a world record.

Each will be sponsored for the event and all money raised over the period will go to the Freeman charity.

The Club hopes that as many people as possible will come along and watch and cheer them on.

Amongst the team members are three current international players, Jacob Carr, Samantha and Fergus Thompson so the standard of croquet will be high and good to watch.

The Freeman charity is - Freeman Heart & Lung Transplant Association - To help and support transplant patients of the Freeman Hospital, Newcastle upon Tyne both financially and by providing facilities for recreation to enable them to improve their condition. The charity works to educate the public of the need for organ donation.

This charity was picked as Maggie had a Double Lung Transplant at the Freeman Hospital last year. Her full story can be read at www.justgiving.com/maggie-cowman
