Dave Mundy won the Medway Midweek Tournament, beating Jonathan Lamb in the final +24, +26tp

This year's Medway Midweek started badly, with light rain and two lawns having puddles. So it was a slow start with only one lawn available for the 12 players! (Medway's other two lawns were not available as they hadn't been mown.) Still, by the end of an early lunch, all 3 lawns were in use, so it was just a question of trying to catch up with the manager's schedule.

The four player knock-out did start sometime after lunch on the second day, so not quite caught up by then. However, the new lawn 5 (an old Bowling Green) proved to be the best lawn, but rather too easy for these top players and so the best of three game semi-finals were easily completed by the end of the day. Surprisingly Lionel Tibble, the winner in 2010, was not one of these players having lost to both Dave Mundy and Jonathan Lamb in the Swiss Qualifier. However, he did win the Swiss in the end.

Resetting the hoops on Lawn 5 did make them tighter for the final, but still not sufficiently difficult. So having turned down the option of a best of five games final the players completed their match well before lunch. Dave Mundy, returning to his old club, won both games and the magnificent trophy.

Jonathan Lamb, resident in Uruguay, had his handicap, unsurprisingly, reduced from 0.5 to scratch. Obviously his six month sabbatical in Canterbury is doing some good for his croquet!
