Bear of Rodborouigh beat Ryde by 5 games to 2.
Bear of Rodborough travelled to Ryde but the Ryde Club had problems with a team. The players would have been entirely different if it had taken place on Saturday because of the fund raising event "Walk the Wight" from Bembridge to the Needles in aid of the local hospice. Team "bandit" Harry Oldham (20) was not available, so Nick Minns now handicapped at 12 was brought out of retirement.
Early Sunday morning the match itself started with Matthew Jackson and Richard Way up against the Ryde pair of Philip Kennerley and Chris Cockcroft. This went the distance with the home team ahead by 10 on time. In the meantime the Bear couple of Keith and Kate Apperley had beaten Ryde players Richard Harris and Nick Minns respectively making it 2 games to the visitors at lunch.
With some catching up to do, Ryde did not start well in the afternoon. Chris Cockcroft went down to Richard Way by 15. Just under an hour later Keith pegged out against Nick MInns by 13, soon followed by Kate winning by 14 against Richard Harris to determine the contest.
Honours went to Philip Kennerley foe the home team with the last match going to time with just two hoops in it with Philip on peg and rover and Matthew Jackson on peg and penult.
