Tim King won Golf Croquet Singles at Hurlingham in spite of the weather.

The 4th GC Open singles at Hurlingham started with much enthusiasm for 6 best of two matches and one cross block game. Unfortunately this had to be radically rethought when the heavens opened at about 2:30 and the lawns became more suitable for wind surfing than croquet. A few hardy players tried to carry on but it soon became apparent that play would have to be suspended for the day.

Sunday saw blue skies, fully dried out lawns and a first ever start time of 9am at Hurlingham. Fortunately by 1PM all the block games had finished and the 4 semi finalists were clearly defined. Block A had Howard Cheyne and Tim King on 7/8, Block B had Nelson Morrow on 7/8 and Don Beck on 6/8.

The semis were close with Tim beating Nelson 7-5 7-6 and Don beating Howard 7-5 7-5.

The final started at 3:30 with about 20 spectators but by the time Tim scored the winning hoop (6-7, 7-4, 7-5) at 6:45, there were only 4 hardy souls left. Tim was a worthy winner and good to see him return to form.
