9 Jun 2013 (GC)

Lionel Tibble won the Cheltenham Golf Croquet tournament, the Club's first Ascot cup qualifier.

There was an entry of eighteen, split into two blocks of nine. It was always going to be a long day but all things conspired to assist Kevin Ham, the manager. The lawns were good, the catering team provided excelent salads that were in harmony with the sunny and warm weather, but principally the players were cooperative to the manager's desire for progress.

With a time limit of 45 minutes, 14 of the 72 block games went to time including the last match in play in which, Kevin Ham beat Ivor Brand 4-3. It was half past seven when they walked off the lawns.

The top four from each block progressed to a knockout with each round being best of three. The remaining players, played all the others from the other block. This consolation event was won by Chris Roberts.

Though one of the quarter finals went to three hours the semifinals wre completed in good order and the final started at three o'clock. In the final Lionel Tibble beat Tony Forbes 7-3, 7-4.

All game and block details are available at croquetscores.com, Finally thanks to Tim King as ROT and assistant manager.
