Oxford Advanced Weekend

[<<] [>>] by Dr. Ian Plummer
5th July 2000 (AC)

Format: Level Advanced, banded Egyptian

2 To 2.5 Handicap Band Block Winner -- Kevin Carter

3 to 8 handicap band Block Winner -- Russell Bretherton
9 to 16 handicap band Block Winner -- John Taylor

Overall Winner -- Russell Bretherton

The main questions remaining after the event are:

Why did mild mannered Dr. Paul Watson rip the soap dispenser and half the tiles off the wall in the Gents?

Can it really be true that Russell Bretherton failed to leave something behind at this tournament?

The tournament enjoyed an even spread of entrants ranging from -2 to 16 handicap who were split into three bands. Players could challenge whom ever they wished but had to play four games within their band to qualify for a prize.

The features of this tournament are a very relaxed format, excellent value tasty food, a well stocked bar (including of course Pimms), and a splendid setting centred on the Victorian cricket pavilion in the scenic University Parks. www.parks.ox.ac.uk
