Tom Weston won the Cheltenham GC Singles Tournament

[<<] [>>] by Kevin Ham at Cheltenham Croquet Club
8 Jun 2014 (GC)

Tom Weston won the GC Singles Tournament at Cheltenham, which is also a qualifier for the Ascot Cup. The initial entry of 24 was reduced to 22 on the day. This did introduce a complication over there planned sequence of rounds which was overcome by playing a 16 rather than 8 round knockout. This was only practical because six lawns were available for use.

Having to play three rounds of the knockout on Sunday presented its own challenges with timing, and unfortunately the final did not start till four o'clock. Jaimie Mussi and Tom Weston fought a final of mixed fortunes with Tom victorious 7-4, 1-7, 7-5.

My thanks to all at Cheltenham that helped make the event a success, particularly the catering staff who provided fine meals.
