Welcome to Cairo! Unfortunately, the commentary function of the CA website seems to be broken. I am not sure what happens if I use the normal editing mode to add comments.
A brief re-cap of the day so far. We have held the final of the Plate, the semi-finals and final of the Bowl, the semi-finals of the Shield and the 3rd/4th play-off. The final of the Shield is underway on Court 2. The Final is due to start in ten minutes on Court 1. The players have started to warm up.
Jenny Clarke is playing Be & Bk. Judith Hanekom Rd & Yw.
Being parochial for the moment, the good news for the CA is that Maggie Cowman (one of only two entrants from England) has won the Plate final. Meanwhile, the Bowl has been won by Soha Moustafa from Egypt, one of the players who under-performed in the main knockout.
Jenny is the top seed for the event and has only dropped two games in 18 played. The closest other player is Shadin Oukasha from Egypt. She has only dropped three games and is competing in the Shield final.
Judith has made harder work of her progress through the event. But the impressive feature has been the way in which she has gradually improved her results and beaten an Egyptian in each round of the knockout.
