Andrew Cowing won the Cheltenham Advanced Tournament, and John Wells won the Handicap tournament.

A sometimes wet and sometimes cold Easter Friday at Cheltenham saw the season start with a two- day Advanced ( max handicap 6) competition .This was followed in glorious sunshine by a two-day Handicap event.

Forty entries were received for the Advanced - of whom over a quarter were from elsewhere and everyone had at least four games in a managed Egyptian format.

The winner was Cheltenham member Andrew Cowing with the runner-up being Chris Williams .

The fastest victory was by Tony Forbes , who took just 55 minutes to beat Andrew Wise.

This was the first time the front lawns had been in action since being renovated.

The Handicap event on the Sunday and Monday, using a knock-out main event and a consolation Egyptian had twenty-six entries and was won by John Wells. The runner-up was Peter Mores and Robin Smith won the Egyptian in a shoot-out at hoop five against Gordon Weir.

New catering arrangements proved very popular - and tasty. This will be available for most tournaments this year.

Penny Crowe managed a large entry in her usual calm manner ,and the Prizes were awarded by Cheltenham's newly installed President, Paul Smith.
