Joe Lennon won the Middlesbrough Handicap

[<<] [>>] by Charles Waterfield at Middlesbrough Croquet Club
3 May 2015 (AC - Handicap)

There was a somewhat smaller entry than expected this year, with eight competitors. Nevertheless it was a pleasure to welcome three players from further afield, Joe down from Glasgow, Ian over from Keswick and Geoff down from Belsay. Handicaps ranged from 1 up to 16.

As previously, we played 18 point games with strict 2 hour time limits and 2/3 the bisques. With four lawns there was no double-banking. The format was a simple American block, with pre-drawn rounds. It was agreed that final positions would be arrived at by considering game points (2 for win, 1 for draw) and, if needed, hoop points.

Four rounds were completed on the Saturday and the remaining three on Sunday, so completing the block games in good time (thanks to the competitors' enthusiasm and resilience). Three players scored a total of 10 game points and, after taking hoops into account, Joe just edged out Andrew for top slot.

Final positions:
1st Joe Lennon, 2nd Andrew Killick
3rd Dennis Scarr, 4th Peter McDermott
5th Ian Hall, 6th Charles Waterfield
7th Nigel Roberts, 8th Geoff Clemence
