Robert Fulford won the Colchester Open weekend

A very strong field assembled for Colchester's Open weekend staged over the Solstice again. There were no heroics with anyone playing record numbers of games this year, spirits and bodies dampened by heavy rain on Saturday afternoon, but some players were still keen enough to be playing at 9.45pm.

Rob Fulford playing his first association tournament with his new bent handled mallet won without dropping a game for the second year in a row. It was a good weekend for the Colchester players with Jack Wicks finishing runner up only losing to Rob and Nick Steiner finishing on a very creditable 3/5 in this field. Jack earned a handicap reduction to -2 and is up to the 5th ranked English player.

Keith Aiton won the 'Orange' prize, which turned out to be a Chocolate Orange for the player with the lowest ranking to win higher than 50% having played a minimum of 6 games.

Much time was spent by players trying to educate young Ollie Chapman now nearly 2, though perhaps lead astray would be a more accurate description.

Thanks to everyone at the Club especially the cooks for keeping the players fed and watered and everyone involved in preparing the lawns.

Results

Winner: Rob Fulford 9/9

Runner up: Jack Wicks 7/8

Orange Prize: Keith Aiton 5/8
