Peter Dowd won the 'Zero Plus' Tournament

Hamptworth Croquet held its first main Tournament of the season on Saturday 30th April & Sunday 1st May.

The Golf Croquet level play event for Handicaps Zero Plus [Hcps 0+] was a new venture for the club and even though it fell over the May Bank Holiday weekend we were fully subscribed with entries.(Entrants were handicaps 0-4 with most falling in the 0-1 range) A great start to another busy season!
The first day and also the last of the block games on Sunday morning were uneventful, except that we did manage to miss a heavy shower at lunch time and a deluge that started right at the end of play for the day on Saturday.
The first and second places in each of the two blocks of 8 players went through to the best-of-3 games semi-finals on Sunday. It so happened that each Block had three players with five wins from seven rounds. Block 1 was fairly easy to work out who had qualified for the semis. However Block 2 was so close that the CA Tournament Regulations had to be consulted to determine how to split the three for the other semi. The semi finals between Peter Dowd [Northampton] & Roger Goldring [Phyllis Court] and William Ormerod [Swanage] & Ian Shore[High Wycombe] progressed well, with Peter & William winning through to contest the best of 3 games final. Unfortunately William had to retire half way through the first game of the final due to feeling unwell. Such a shame for all concerned and we wish William a speedy recovery. So as a result of reaching the Final, Peter Dowd was declared the winner of the new Hamptworth Zero Plus Salver.
We hope to repeat, what turned out to be a very successful event in 2017
