The Woking annual level-play golf croquet tournament took place over two days in mainly dry and humid weather. A full house of fourteen players had entered although there was a disappointing lack of overseas entries. With an all-play-all format, each played seven games on the first day and six on the second. At the end of the first day only Jeff Dawson (Woking) remained unbeaten but with Lionel Tibble (Northampton) close on his heels with six wins.

At the start of Day Two and right up to the lunch break it looked as though the title would be decided in the final round between the two leaders but Lionel lost further ground in the twelfth round giving Jeff an unassailable lead. In maintaining a hundred percent record in the final round Jeff pushed Lionel into third place, as Mike Town (Woking) with a succession of six wins came second.

As usual at Woking the players enjoyed splendid two-course lunches and teas provided by the catering team.
