Cheltenham Level-Play GC Tournaments

Once again Russell Barter, of Cheltenham Croquet Club, who is keen to get High Handicap Golf Croquet players to play in competitions was given permission to manage a 2 day tournament for players with handicap 5 & below & those 6 & above. The first day was Handicap with 8 competitors in the Low H/c which was won by Peter Balchin (Dyffryn & Cheltenham) and received the Barter Cup. The High H/c was won by Lorraine Shepherd (Cheltenham) who only started playing Croquet this year.

On the 2nd. day it was Level play with 17 competitors in the Low H/c with some scintillating play by Ivor Brand, Richard Brand, Richard Raby, Peter Balchin, Sarah Melvin, Mark Hamann, Stuart Smith & Tony Forbes. Tony Forbes (Cheltenham) & Mark Hamann (East Dorset) met in a Best of 3 final. The 1st. match went to Mark but Tony prevailed in the next 2 so received the Barter Trophy. In the High H/c division 12 competitors took part with the result that the finalists were Lloyd Jones (who won last year) & Gordon Weir. This time Gordon Weir prevailed.

Russell was pleased with the turnout on both days of the High H/c players and their enthusiasm for competitive play.
