Bishop Monkton beat Croquet Durham 4-3

Bishop Monkton's first foray into the world of the Murphy Shield proved a success for the North Yorkshire club.

They met Croquet Durham on what felt like one of the windiest days of the year!! The wind whistled along the lawns at Bishop Monkton making playing very difficult indeed.

The two teams were well balanced in terms of overall handicaps but Bishop Monkton had stronger players playing at numbers three and four carrying them through the tie to final result of Bishop Monkton 4, Croquet Durham 3.

Jack Upsall 5 and Andrea Widdison 5 lost to Carol Brady 3 and Malcolm Hobbs 3: 3-7, 3-7.
Ian Mc Pherson 7 beat Kathleen Penrose 9: 7-2, 7-2.
Richard Field 8 beat Libby Carsino 10: 7-2, 7-5.
Ian Mc Pherson beat Libby Carsino: 7-4, 7-3.
Richard Field best Kathleen Penrose:7-1, 7-1.
Jack Upsall lost to Carol Brady: 3-7, 6-7.
Andrea Widdison lost to Malcolm Hobbs: 2-7, 4-7.
