REPORT ON SIDMOUTH B LEVEL ADVANCED PLAY TOURNAMENT - 17 TO 19 AUGUST 2017

Sidmouth CC welcomed players to their annual B Level Advanced Tournament, for many it was a time of meeting up and renewing old friendships, but for some it was their first visit to Sidmouth CC. Alas, the weather did not quite live up to expectation, but at least the one heavy downpour did occur whilst players were having lunch.

Players were divided into two American Blocks.

In Block A there was a tie for first place with Peter Nelson ( Sidmouth CC) and Robert Moss (The Bears CC) both with 5 wins out of 7. On " Who beat Whom" Peter was declared the winner.

In Block B there was a three-way tie with Andrew Webb ( Pendle and Craven CC), Roger Mills and Philip Harris both from Sidmouth CC. All with 5 wins out of 7. It came down to net points to determine the winner as "Who beat Whom" and quality of wins both failed to resolve the position. On that basis Andrew was declared the winner, with Philip in second place.

In the final both players had their chances but Andrew beat Peter +8T to take home the Regency Salver.The hoops seemed to have provided players with a challenge so that many games did not peg out.

Ian Friedlander ( Sidmouth CC) attained his Silver Merit Award in his game with Peter Nelson. Peter was on 4-back and 2-back with Ian not having started. Peter broke down leaving Ian to pick up the break and go all the way round to peg. Peter failed to capitalise on his lift and contact leaving Ian to take his second ball round to peg and peg out. Ian at handicap 8 was the highest handicap player in the tournament.

Several players met up on both nights to go out for a meal together, but on the Friday night the lure of finishing early to have time to change spurred Philip Harris to finish his game against David Houston, who had travelled from Edinburgh to play, in just under 1 hour 30 minutes to win the fastest Game.

The prizes were presented by Nancy Temple, who had managed the tournament for many years but had retired from managing last year.
