Yorkshire International Golf Croquet Open Championship

Play was on the two lawns at the Ripon Spa Hotel a wonderful venue in the dales of north Yorkshire. Eight of the twenty competitors were from Egypt including World Champion Khaled Younis.

Block winners were
John Moore, Ayman Abdelwahab, Khaled Younis and Yasser Esmat. They together with the block runners up qualified for the quarter finals.

Q-finals
John Moore bt David Openshaw 7-3
Khaled Younis bt Mervat Metwali 7-1
Derek Old bt Yasser Esmat
Mohamed Nasr bt Ayman Abelwahab

S-finals
Khaled Younis bt John Moore
Mohamed Nasr bt Derek Old

Final
Khaled Younis bt Mohamed Nasr 7-5,7-5

The final was closely contested but the greater experience of Khaled Younis triumphed against his young opponent. The Egyptians greater hitting power and control of the strikers ball were particularly impressive.
