Hurlingham Handicap One-Ball event for the Bingham Bowl

[<<] [>>] by Tony Bingham at Hurlingham
3rd October 2022 (AC - Handicap)

There was a good entry of 14 for this open Handicap One-Ball event, including some welcome newcomers. Handicaps ranged from AC 5 to 20 and GC 2 to 11. Using the CA recommended method OB handicaps therefore ranged from 5 to 20.

A flexible Swiss competition was applied and worked well given some were able to fit in 8 games and others only 7. All had a good time, enjoying Hurlingham's immaculate front lawns before they close for the season; the showers stayed away and the sun shone most of the time.

The stand-out winner of the Bingham Bowl was Mark Wellby (Hurlingham, OB handicap 12.5), who astonishingly won 8 out of 8. In his own words "I have never played so well; everything went my way". Though towards the end the winner was never in doubt there was close competition for the places. Tony Elliott (5) from Ealing came second on 5 from 7, the same score as Clive Freedman (20), Hurlingham, but Tony had won their head to head. Hurlingham members Veronica Carlisle, Sudy Harrison and Sara Furnas all won more games than they lost. Both Mark and Tony received Hurlingham glassware.

Visitors to Hurlingham are welcome in this event; let's see more next year.
