Cheltenham Easter Handicap

[<<] [>>] by Sarah Hayes at Cheltenham
17th April 2023 (AC - Handicap)

The event was played as blocks on day 1 with the 6 winners plus 2 lucky losers progressing to a knockout on Day 2. All the unsuccessful block players plus the first round knockout losers were able to still play in the consolation Hands Ladder.

Black block was the most hotly contested with Hayes winning all games by narrow margins, Aarvold played beautifully throughout and squeezed into the KO as lucky loser number 2 with a very respectable +29 net points.

Two cross blocks were used with 2 players in one block, Kibble and Collinson, both winning all three games. Kibble was the block winner by 4 measly net points; Collinson was duly rewarded as he became Lucky Loser number 1. The opposing cross block obviously didn't fare so well. Richard Marriage of Cheltenham CC was the block winner with just one win and -10 net points.

Garway CC, a new CA member club, were well represented with Collinson and Watkins, entering their first official event, progressing to the KO stage and both making the semi-finals before being disposed of by Marriage and Aarvold.

The final was therefore contested by the block winner with the worst result and lucky loser number 2 - typical eh?

Dominic prevailed in a very tight pegged out affair to win +1 on time.

The Hands Ladder was won by Adam Moliver with a score of 112.

The weather was glorious and had been organised with great care by the Manager.

Note - Minty Clinch does better and better each time she comes to Cheltenham - this time winning her block and she therefore had her handicap cut to 18 - well played Minty!!

The Garway Gang both had their handicaps cut to 10.
