A tale of two Emperors
(L to R) Ken Knock, Adrian Kirby, Martin Russell (with the Handicap Shield) & Jonathan Toye
31st July 2023 (AC)
Accompanying the select entry of five were two visitors from Ancient Rome who brought with them the unfurled whip of everything the heavens could drop on the competitors scurrying for cover. We had pelting rain, ever expanding puddles and 40 mph gusts.
Adrian Kirby had improvised when one of the entrants was unable to participate owing to Covid with the emperors Justinian and HAdrian being added to the list. ( Both looked very like the manager). The fifth, unoccupied, person was thus able to play a 14 point game with Justinian whilst his alter ego HAdrian played the standard 26 point game.
This led to everyone enjoying some close battles on Peterborough's fine lawns with Ken Knock from Pinchbeck winning the Tony Parry Tankard and Martin Russell from Downham winning all his Singles matches to claim the Handicap Shield. Stephen Cornelius and Martin Russell achieved a reduction in handicap. Well played all and many thanks to the ingenuity of the manager, keeping us all occupied.
