25th July (CqE Official News)

John Reddish has decided that he wishes to stand down as Secretary of the Croquet England CIO and as Secretary to the Board, and consequently we are seeking a successor.

The Secretary of the CIO is responsible to the CIO through the Board of Trustees for providing independent leadership and guidance in matters relating to administration, encouraging the highest standards of integrity, effectiveness, and openness, and have a duty to ensure the CIO's regulatory compliance. These responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the President with arrangements, calling notice, agenda and minutes of General Meetings
  • Supporting the CIO in the preparation and submission of the Annual Return to the Charity Commission
  • As a member of the Electoral Commission, defining and operating the rules for the election of Trustees
  • Maintaining a record of Significant Decisions of the Board of Trustees and Executive.
  • Maintaining the Register of Interests

The Secretary of the CIO has a standing invitation to all meetings of the Board of Trustees.

The Secretary to the Board of Trustees supports the Chair of the Board, through

  • Preparing and issuing the calling notice, agenda and supporting documentation for Board meetings
  • Preparing and distributing minutes of Board meetings
  • Advising on procedural, regulatory and constitutional matters

The two roles of Secretary of the CIO and Secretary to the Board can be combined or separated.

Together with the Secretary to the Executive (currently Paul Brown) the three roles form the Secretariat Group who together support coherence across the three roles.

Either role would suit someone with an eye for detail. Legal experience would be helpful, but not essential. It is a great opportunity to work closely with those looking to shape Croquet England and contribute to the future direction of the organisation. Trustees and The Executive very much look to the Secretariat for advice about constitutional issues and other situations that arise. The Secretary is therefore a very important part of the team.

For further information, or to apply for the role, please contact John Reddish (as previous role-holder) or Samir Patel (Chair of the Board of Trustees).
