Ten players gathered in gloomy conditions on the morning of Saturday 15th June to contest this event. We had ten entries, with 5 from home club Ashby, so we played a 5 round Egyptian event as Ashby v 'Rest of the World'. In reality, 4 out of the 5 RoW places were players from York on a foray to the Midlands, with one from Nottingham. On Saturday we were treated to a lot of rain, occasional lightning and hail, and a few sunny spells. After 3 rounds, we were very wet but had two players with 3 wins, Mark Innes from Nottingham and Andy Sherwood from Ashby playing in his first AC competition. It was also 8-7 to the RoW v Ashby in the subsidiary competition.

We had much better weather on Sunday, which saw more completed games (6/10 v 5/15 on Saturday). Andy continued his fine form, qualifying for a bronze award in his morning game and winning all 5 games in the weekend. Debbie James was runner up amongst the players with 3 wins, having won her last game whilst her rivals lost theirs. Ashby beat RoW 14-11.
