Chris Williams won the Barwell Salver for the A Class at the Budleigh Salterton June Midweek event beating Dave Kibble in what was effectively the final.

Initially the tournament was limited to 20 players but when it was heard that former Budleigh member, Lionel Stock, was bringing down a party of eight players from York it was decided to increase the numbers to 28. In the end 26 played and so the event was split into an 8 player Swiss playing for the A Class and three six-player American blocks for the B, C and D classes.

The B Class was won by Chris Donovan; it was decided that Cathie Dance

(York) won the C Class from Lionel Stock and Hugh Gilbert, since she had beaten both. Unfortunately Hugh had fallen off his bike on the way to the club on the first morning and his evening match against Lionel was not played, as Hugh needed to go and get his leg bandaged.

The D Class was contested by six York players, all of whom had not played Advanced before. James Moir came out on top winning all five of his games.
