Job Advert: Croquet England Interim CEO
About Us: Croquet England is seeking a dynamic individual to lead the organisation as our Chief Executive Officer. After over a century of governance by an unincorporated association, Croquet England was incorporated as a CIO in 2023 and began operations in 2024.
We are now looking to build on our successful first year and progress our strategy to get more people playing more croquet in more places. The Trustees are developing an action plan in support of the strategy for the future of Croquet England which may include changes to organisational structure. We are therefore seeking to appoint a volunteer CEO on an interim basis to serve until the AGM in October.
The Role: The CEO reports to the Board of Trustees and has full oversight of all the operational and day to day activities of Croquet England, including administrative, commercial, financial, communication and sporting activities.
This includes:
- Providing operational direction for the implementation of Croquet England's overall strategy, and helping to embed the core values of Croquet England into all day-to-day activities.
- Leading the Executive in the day-to-day management of Croquet England, including chairing meetings of the Executive, and with the Treasurer ensuring the financial stability of the organisation.
- Attending meetings of the Board of Trustees to advise it on the formulation of policy and report on the Executive's implementation of it.
- Line management for the Operations Manager, and key volunteer roles including the Executive Directors.
The role is unpaid, with expenses covered, and work is conducted almost exclusively remotely. The CEO will use their own IT hardware, but will be provided with a Microsoft Office 365 account, including email and Teams.
The Executive Board meets monthly online, and the Trustees will meet online three times before the AGM. In addition, the Interim CEO can expect informal one to one online meetings and email correspondence and will have the opportunity to shape how hands on he or she wishes to be while meeting the needs of the role.
The Person: We are looking for an enthusiastic leader and manager who can support Croquet England during this interim period. Knowledge of croquet, in either code and at any level, is an advantage but not essential.
Our Commitment: We value diversity, equality, and inclusion and strive to provide an inclusive and supportive environment for all volunteers and employees. We welcome applications from all backgrounds.
How to Apply: For more information and/or an informal conversation about the opportunity, please contact Samir Patel (Chair of Trustees) or Gabrielle Higgins (Secretary).
To apply, send your CV and a covering letter outlining your interest in the role and your relevant experience and skills to Gabrielle Higgins by 24 February 2025.
