Like most croquet this summer, this match was played in blazing hot sunny conditions with little of interest save for Dave Foulser's somewhat unusual straight triple. When he peeled 4-back, the escape ball was about 6 feet south of 4-back so he put it by penult whilst getting a rush on peelee towards penult.
He peeled penult from about 7 feet about a foot through the hoop so when approaching penult himself he used the penult pioneer to cannon the peelee out of the line of his ball. Having run the hoop, he then used a spare ball to cannon the peelee just south of the peg, leaving one ball at penult.
He then peeled rover from about 6 feet at an angle but it only went through a couple of inches. Somehow, he then ran a longish rover hoop without touching peelee, rushed it through hoop 5 and pegged out - simple when you know how!
Cheltenham will play the winner of the Bowdon vs. Surbiton semi-final at Cheltenham on Sunday October 5th.
