Selection Policy

Selection events are open to all Croquet England subscribers and a free, fair and rational selection process is carried out. A selection closing date is stated for each selection event, by which time players must notify their availability; selection takes place soon afterwards. If an event is below strength, the Selectors may take whatever steps are necessary to obtain an appropriate field; otherwise, failure to notify availability is treated as a statement of non-availability. The Selectors will respect any special selection criteria properly associated with a fixture as specified by the fixture's Director.

The Selectors may ask particular players to make themselves available for player or team development, or for any other reason the Selectors decide.

Players are encouraged to be available for representative matches and to enter selection events. You will not be criticised for making known your availability for an event for which you might not expect to be considered.

It should be noted that the Ascot Cup for the English National Golf Croquet Singles Championship is not a true selection event, as places are awarded by qualification in nominated events. However, players are required to register their availability for this event if they have gained automatic entry by a first place in a nominated event or have accumulated positional points in a nominated event.

Other events will be notified to members via the Croquet England website, and by any other practical means.

Players should notify their availability prior to the closing date by:

• Entering their availability online, or
• Post to the CA Office making it clear the events for which they wish to make themselves available.

You may not be considered if you fail to notify your availability as described.
