10 Things You Might Not Know About Croquet England

  1. The Croquet England Funding Committee has the authority to offer grants and loans to Affiliated Clubs. In the last 10 years, the Croquet Association awarded grants totalling over £250,000 to 67 Member Clubs and interest-free loans of £37,000 to 11 clubs. This support is often crucial for clubs to obtain funding from other sources.
  2. In the last 10 years, many new clubs benefited from the Croquet Association's financial and practical help. Croquet England has now taken over the provision of this assistance, via the Funding Committee and the Sports Development Committee.
  3. In the last 10 years, the income from well over £1 million of Croquet Shop sales to the public and £40,000 from sponsors was used by the Croquet Association to expand its development programme. Croquet England will now have the benefit of this financial support.
  4. 228 clubs are affiliated to Croquet England and most benefit from its free Public Liability Insurance scheme as well as help from the Federation Development Officers.
  5. Croquet England organises national coaching, handicapping and awards to encourage enterprising play and to raise overall skills.
  6. Croquet England coordinates championships, tournaments and inter-club events nationally.
  7. Croquet England represents the interests of players internationally and selects and supports teams and individuals who play for their country.
  8. Croquet England promotes research into, and development of, playing equipment and court surfaces.
  9. Croquet England publishes the Croquet Gazette and a monthly eNewsletter and maintains a website. These are full of news, coaching tips and information so that players can keep in touch.
  10. More than 60 volunteer members help run Croquet England, which only employs three staff in the office and pays modest retainers to two others.

The quinquennial surveys that were conducted between 2002 and 2022 have proved beneficial in providing guidance to those who were on the Council of the Croquet Association and now to the trustees of Croquet England.

A total of 2,229 members responded to the latest survey giving an idea of what the membership wants from the governing body.

The answer to the perennial question posed by club members asking: "What does Croquet England do for us?" is available on the "10 Things...." poster and it remains relevant.
