13th June 2011 (AC - Longman Cup)

Final result Nottingham 4 Letchworth 3,

With a relaxed 10am start on a sunny Saturday morning Nottingham plays Letchworth in the first round of the Longman Cup. The morning started well with Bob Thompson and Peter Moore comfortably beating Peter Hanley and Jeremy Scott +26 in the doubles. In the Captain VS Captain match on the other lawn Omied Hallam had a rocky start wasting his first 2 bisques to only make 1 hoop but after 2 hours of play Omied pegged out with a +11 win. With Nottingham 2 for 2 they only needed Derek Blow to win his match to make it a clean sweep. After 3h 30m of play, both Derek Blow and Peter Ross where neck and neck with time gone. Derek left Peter with a long hit in and took off leaving his ball a foot in front of his hoop. Peter had an all or nothing shot at Derek's ball and missed. With time gone and now in golden hoop play, Derek bobbles his hoop allowing Peter an easy rush to his hoop and he won the game +1 on time.
After a large and relaxed lunch it was all to play for in the afternoon session with a 2-1 lead to Nottingham. Peter Moore struck first beating Peter Hanley +26 and finishing the day off without allowing any of his opponents a single hoop. Not long after with a very close game, Jeremy Scott had a great come back from behind to beat Bob Thompson +4 to make it 3-2 to Nottingham with 2 games to play. With all the pressure on the last two matches it was left to the Captain to show his worth, Omied Hallam beat Peter Ross +13 to make it a win for Nottingham. With pressure lifted in the final game, Derek Blow and Keith Rhodes had an exciting conclusion to the day with their match going to time with Keith Rhodes winning +2.
