Colchester beat Medway 5 - 2 at Colchester on 12 July

In almost Arctic
conditions these teams met for the first time in 14 years on the quickish Colchester courts. The home team looked comfortable at lunch with two of the games completed within time. However, Medway started Round 2 in determined mode and Richard Lea quickly disposed of Jeff Farringdon, using a mere two bisques to get close to the finish and in
the process earning his bronze award. Owen Pugh also found things difficult as Peter Highton used his experience and a fistful of bisques to bring the match score to 3-2. However, in the face of uncertainty John Andrews kept his head down and with some good turns comfortably beat John Wright. In the final game to finish, and with rain now an additional factor to contend with, Ann Brookes edged a win in a tight game against the determined Liz Maltby
