David Maugham won the East Midlands Championship to take the Hopewell Cup for the fifth time, from a record field of 32, beating Gabrielle Higgins +25tp +26tp in the play-off between the winners of the draw and process.
The plate was won by Alain Giraud, who beat Ian Lines +16tp in the final. TP (or TPO, super-advanced having been played where agreed by the players) was a common score, with 58 out of the 158 games finishing that way. Richard Huxley gained a gold award, but no silver medals needed to be struck, as all the finalists already had them.
Louise Bradforth and David Brydon also seemed to be on-song, despite Louise having been in play for over 12 hours, give or take meal breaks, on the first day. Saturday was by far the best day for weather, with a light wind, lots of sunshine but not too too hot, though one of the players suffered from suspected sunstroke. Sunday started damp, but brightened up as things were reaching a conclusion. The presentations were made before the plate final got under-way, which concluded with applause from the Women's AC World Championship Organising Committee, which had been scheduled for 5pm.
