13th July 2015 (AC - Handicap)

The oversubscribed Over 50's AC handicap tournament was held on the magnificent Colchester lawns in mixed weather conditions. It is many years since the turf has been in such excellent shape thanks to the advice of Duncan Hector and the implementation of a new maintenance strategy overseen by Peter Kenward.

The results of the first day indicated that there would be a keen fight for the Franklin Bowl with five players on 100%. The second day was much the same with some good wins for John Andrews, Tony Elliott, David Frost and the evergreen Ron Atkinson. Neil Chalmers saw a return to form and Jonathan Toye was also in contention. An interesting feature was the few games going to time, thanks to positive play and fairly generous hoop settings, appropriate for the nature of the tournament.
The final day left John Andrews as winner with 6 wins from 7, and Jonathan Toye, David Frost and Tony Elliott sharing second spot each with 5 wins from 7.

As usual excellent meals were provided by the members with Ann Brookes in charge. Thanks to all of them for ensuring the players were suitably replete throughout the three days.
