Broadwas beat Hunstanton 4-3

On a gloriously sunny 1st June Broadwas met Hunstanton, the reigning Secretary's Shield holders, at neutral ground Nottingham in this first round match. The two sides were well matched for handicaps in this first-ever meeting. Neither side had fancied the 350 mile round trip.

In the morning the singles games were shared but the doubles narrowly went to Broadwas +3(t) and the afternoon session was similarly tight with two games each. The match was decided by a long single ball peg out from the east boundary near hoop 4 which crashed into the post bringing a jubilant Broadwas team to their feet. The Hunstanton team were very gracious in defeat wishing the Broadwas team success in the next round.
