Hamptworth CA 'A Series' 0+ GC 2 Day Tournament- Sat/Sun 15/16th May'21

Louise Smith(Sidmouth) won her 1st Trophy @ Hamptworth in the GC 'A Series' 0+ Tournament-
Saturday/Sunday 15th/16th May.

With a full entry of 16 players, and a weather warning for heavy rain throughout the weekend, the
first days play progressed speedily through the blocks, despite some sharp showers. It was already
raining heavily when players arrived on day two, and with the forecast of several hours of
continuous rain, the manager (with players' agreement) changed the format for the day in order to
achieve a result before the courts became unplayable.

In the semi-final Louise Smith (Sidmouth) met Jonny Claxton (Dulwich). Jonny had won his way
through using some impressive jump shots, but missed his jump on hoop 13 against Louise and she
took the game. In the other semi-final Neil Humphreys (Sussex County) beat Paul Gunn (Wingrave)
7-5 just as rain started to puddle on their court. Spectators and other players who had completed the Plate competition (won by Chris Heath, Guildford) bravely stood in the pouring rain to watch the
closely fought final between Louise and Neil, with Louise triumphing at the 13th taking the hoop
with a shot from near the boundary - and thus winning her first Trophy!
