Giles Pepperell wins the GC C-Level (7+) Series National Final

As one would expect at the end of a long season of C-Level (7+) Series tournaments, the play in this National Final was of a high standard - okay not many jump shots, but good, accurate placements, clearances and competitive play. 20% of the games went to 7-6.

The 16 player field was split into two blocks of 8 for the first day.
Giles Pepperell (Llanfairfechan) won all the games in his block, including the last one which required a difficult angled jump shot, and in the other block, Andy Jones (Phyllis Court), Philip Tremble (Guilford & Godalming) and Colin Spencer (Downham) only lost 5 games between them.

The 19-point quarter-final games were very close with Peperell, Spencer, Jones and Mark Innes (Nottingham) all going through to the semi-finals which were played as the 'best-of-three' 13-point games.

Pepperell had a slight hiccup in his first game but sailed through the other two to win 2-1, and Innes played two very close games with Jones but kept his calm, to also reach the final.

Pepperell spent some time 'resting' while waiting for the second semi to finish and he took a while to get going again in the 'best-of-three' final.
Innes got the upper hand and won the first game 5-7, but Peperrell thundered through the other two games to win 7-3 and 7-4.

Pepperell started off the season playing in the Camerton and Peasedown C-Level, so it was fitting that he won the Series title back at our Club.

The 'Plate' featured an 8-player 'all play all' and was won by Michael Tideswell (Eynsham) with 6 victories from his 7 games.

The weather was perfect all the weekend and the Saturday evening ended in the twilight with a welcome BBQ.
