WELL DONE MARK!
Mark McInerney (Ireland) has become the first non-Egyptian Golf Croquet World Champion after playing brilliantly all week. In the course of winning the title he had to beat the 2004, 2006 and 2008 champions.
What is Golf Croquet?Croquet has a long history and should always be played on a flat lawn measuring 35 yards by 28 yards with six hoops and one peg. There are two main types of croquet: Association and Golf. Golf Croquet is enjoying a surge of interest around the world, partly because it has simpler rules and is more interactive (each turn is just a single stroke). However,it requires a similar level of accuracy and tactical awareness. The first player to run through a hoop is awarded a point and there are no extra turns. A game is usually won by the first player to gain 7 points. In this tournament most matches will be played on a best of 3 games basis. Where can I watch the games? The event is being played at the Hurlingham & Surbiton clubs. Spectators are welcome at both but it is advisable to book in advance as numbers are limited. How can I enter? Most of the 64 spaces have been allocated by the WCF to specific countries, see here for details. There will also be a Qualifying Event to select at least four entrants and this will be held at Roehampton on July 15th & 16th. The main sponsor of this event is a leading independent financial adviser. | News |
