Morning all, and welcome to Surbiton for the first time today. The overall situation is very clear: GB with two test wins need to beat Australia, no wins, to retain the Shield. If Australia beat GB, then the winner of New Zealand v. USA will triumph.
As I pedalled in this morning it was nippy, but a cloudless sky. But as the players warm up the clouds are moving in. No rain forecast however. Lawns are reading 11 Plummers.
GAME 1
======
1 U to E boundary 12 yds N of C4
2 Y to C2
3 K misses U from A baulk, leaving a bit of a target
4 R hits K from rnd of A baulk
Rushes U to near C2 and makes 1 off Y. Rushes to 1 yd N of C4
Y goes to 3 and rushes K perfectly into C2 and he's away
Pops K down to 5 yds S of 2 going to 5
Pops K through 2 after 1b
NSL, with K (for 3) on hoop 4, U 2 yds off middle of W boundary. Not very forcing really
5 K misses long lift into C4
6 Linesy's picked up the break with Y, and is taking off to C4 after 3 leaving U behind for the delayed tp. Squeaky bum time momentarily as to stops 6" short of the yardline
Rushes R onto hoop 6 after 4, and is leaving it there. Possibly it is sufficiently hampered by hoop 6 to make it unrollable to 4b. At any rate the 4b peel won't get done until after 6 at the earliest
No attempt to rush peelee across after 6, so a stodge round to the peg from here, maybe an attempt at the stp as the parity is right
Unaudited crowd estimate is 50. Not bad for early doors
Hoops not causing any difficulty whatsoever, not surprising as there's been some heavy showers over the last few days. With overcast conditions forecast for the next 3/4 days, looking like conditions will remain as easy here as they have been everywhere else
R clip remains firmly attached to rover, so stodge to the peg it is with a spread, K (for 3) on the peg. Again not forcing. R&Y on E boundary at maximum position
7 K misses U 1 yd off W boundary from end of B baulk
8 Fulford goes out from 4b
Fulford & Lines beat Landrebe & Beard +24
GAME 2
======
1 U to C2
2 R to 1ft N C4
I'm afraid I've no control over what this opening's about, will report back after enquiry
3 K to C4
4 Y hits K in C4. Comes back on half a ball S of R. Gets poked back into C4(?) as Y gets a rush on R which goes to W boundary 4 yds S of C2. Takes off and gets S bound rush on U. Rolls up to 1 from middle od S boundary, hits 2 yd hamoered shot after the hoop, and is away on a 3 baller
5 Completes distinctly leisurely turn to 4b. Leave is K n1 yd off middle of W boundary, U by rover not rushable close to 1 with 80% of ball visible from the end of A baulk, R&Y on middle of E boundary with a rush at the peg, possibly cross pegged from K
6 K misses long lift into C4
7 R rushes Y close to U, rushes U to S boundary close to line of hoop 4
Long discussion before playing obvious take off to try and get a rush on K in the corner to hoop 1
No rush, so attempta to approach hoop from C4 putting K to 2. Clangs 1 from 4/5 ft angled. ight be runnable next time
8 Obviously not Runnable, as K is left at 2 and U hits Y in the middle of the lawn from S boundary for a laid 4 ball break and tpo if he wants it. Don't suppose he will...
Linesy is gliding serenely on to 4b, looking like an NSL this time, 4b ball on hoop 4
9 R hits short lift, clipping in court ball to middle of E boundary. Rolling up to 1 from 2 yds SW of rover. Looks 3 ft at slight angle, perfectly runnable, but partner has intervened
They're still discussing they're options on lawn 1...
George Noble has just very kindly deleivered a foaming pint of Chiswick. Lovely. Got to stick to the session ale today as I have a darts match in town tonight
OK, hoop was not so runnable as it looked, so R has retired to E boundary midway between U & C4
10 U misses 23 ydr at K
11 Y hits 18 ydr at K from hoop 1, has a leave: K at 2, U on S boundary behind 1, R&Y on E boundary R with a rush to middle of S boundary
12 U misses K to N boundary
13 R picks up a break, and is now trying to put it down again by grovelling through 4 and having to hit hoop 5 pioneer. Ends up rolling up to 5 from 5 yds in front, running a longish hoop cleanly, and missing 9 yd return to S boundary
14 K centre balls U from 16 yds. Having to make 2 off partner, so a bit of work to do to finish
Rushes across after 2 well enough to be able to jaws the 4b peel after 3
Penult peel after 6, peelee now 1 ft dead in front of rover as he runs 2b
Peeling rover from 3" dead in front going to 3b
Finishes
Fulford & Lines beat Landrebe & Beard + 24 +17tp(F)
