Good morning from Roehampton. Jenny has a late start today, so apologies that the commentary is starting 20 minutes late.
I'm going to concentrate on the 2 games on lawn 2 again.
We have Reg Bamford v Mark Ormerod and Robert Fletcher v Gabrielle Higgins
Bamford v Ormerod
When I arrived, Reg was approaching hoop 1 from straight in front. He failed to get a good rush out of the hoop and ended up having to take off to partner near C2. He overhit this shot and it finished millimetres over the line. Unfortunately for Reg it appears that he has also given Mark a lift with a ball near C4
Mark has lifted Brown to B-Baulk and is shooting at Reg's balls near C2...............HITS
R. Fletcher v Higgins
When I arrived, Gabrielle was rushing to hoop 1 for a break, but failed to get going. Robert had a 19 yarder joing up with partner which he missed and Gabrielle hit about a 17 yarder. I'm not sure what happened then, but she is now rolling up to hoop 2 from 17 yards away with Roberts balls at hoop 3 and C3. She got reasonable position at h2, but sent the front ball off. The pace of these lawns is really causing problems.
Robert shoots from H3 to C3............HITS.

Bamford v Ormerod
Mark has picked up his break (all he had to do was rush to hoop 1) and will now be going to 4-b. Mark is meant to be solid and unspectacular, so I doubt we'll see himtry and pop Reg to 3+3 which would be fairly easy from here.
Mark sends out his h3 pioneer which finishes nearer the boundary than the hoop.
Mark makes h2 and send hs h4 pioneer 4y E of h4.
He's reached 2-b and still has a break
R. Fletcher v Higgins
Robert takes off to Gabrielle's ball on the N boundary and will roll that to h2 getting a rush on the ball near h2 to h1. Actually, he's managed to get a rush on it which should make it much easier to get a tight rush to h1.
Robert's rush to h1 was perfect and he's now going round
Submitted by Chris Clarke on Sun, 08/11/2013 - 10:31.
Bamford v Ormerod
Mark reaches 4-b and gives up the innings. It is unclear whether this was a deliberate tactic. Hi 4-b ball is in C2, his h1 ball is 4y N of C4.
Reg's h1 ball is 3y E of the peg and his h2 ball is 4y S of h2.
Reg lifts his h1 ball to C3 - yes C3!! and shoots at his h2 ball.....................hits in the middle. One of the wackiest lift shots I've ever seen!!!
He rolls partner to h2 going to the ball in C2 and the strikers ball goes off the lawn.
Mark is now making hoops with his 4-b ball
R. Fletcher v Higgins
Robert is round to 4-b and has made a diagonal spread
Submitted by Chris Clarke on Sun, 08/11/2013 - 10:40.
Bamford v Ormerod
Mark has made 3 hoops and is now 1 and peg conceding a lift. He took a huge amount of wire at rover and just grovelled through. He now faces a hampered shot.......misses.
Reg now has an easy starting roquet, but h5 is in the way fo rushing perfectly to h2. It shouldn't cause him a big problem. The interesting question is will Reg go to 1-b or will he go straight to the peg for the Riggall?
Reg rushes to 5y S of h2
R. Fletcher v Higgins
Gabrielle lifts the ball at the peg and is taking the "short" lift.......................misses
Robert has picked up his break and is making h2 with control
Submitted by Chris Clarke on Sun, 08/11/2013 - 10:55.
R. Fletcher v Higgins
Robert has peeled 4-b after h3, jawses penult after h6
Bamford v Ormerod
Reg approaches h2 well and crashes through to the boundary. Will he stop at 1-b?
News from Hurlingham is that groundsmen have been using hoses immediately before play soaking corner areas and hoops. There is standing water around some hoops. Play then started - that's real play, not practice and then someone came on to reset the hoops during the middle of a game!!!
Submitted by Chris Clarke on Sun, 08/11/2013 - 11:06.
Bamford v Ormerod
Reg grovels through hoop 6, but has an easy shot. He has already put out a 1-b pioneer and is going to the peg. He peels partner through h2 after 1-b. Is he going to peg 2 balls out?
Reg is going to peel partner through h3 after 4-b.
R. Fletcher v Higgins
Robert has jawsed rover going to 2-b. Tidy turn from Robert with better control than most players have demonstrated so far here. +25tp

Submitted by Chris Clarke on Sun, 08/11/2013 - 11:20.

Reg nudges
Mark nudges
Submitted by Chris Clarke on Sun, 08/11/2013 - 11:31.
Bamford v Ormerod
Reg moves his ball 2 feet further north. Their nudging is making the wire thinner by moving to a more E/W wiring.
Mark nudges. Mark needs to get further away from the hoop gradually imho.
Reg moves another foot further north.
Mark moves 3 feet further away from h1
Reg goes 6y N of C4 - that's a tactical win for Mark, whi should be able to get good position at h1 now
Mark takes poor position at h1
Reg moves 4 feet West
Submitted by Chris Clarke on Sun, 08/11/2013 - 11:37.
Mark improves his position - good choice
Reg is looking at going onto the South boundary behind hoop 1. Last time I saw someone try this, it was their last shot in the game. Yes, he's played to the south boundary
Can Mark poke through the hoop and hit it? It looks playable to me - not easy, but big rewards................he's looking at it..............amazing choice............doesn't shoot, doesn't run hoop1 and plays 6y W of C4............Reg will shoot at that
Reg shoots......................hits. Tries to croquet Mark to deep behind h6 trying to get in front of h5.................Marks ball hits the ball barriers. That's the 3rd croquet stroke Reg has put off this game
Mark shoots at reg in front of h5...............................misses
Submitted by Chris Clarke on Sun, 08/11/2013 - 11:43.
Reg doesn't look at picking Mark up and smashes at h5, running it by a foot. Fails to get position at h6.
Mark can take good position at h1 here and force Reg to run away. Overhits the shot and finishes unrunnable
Reg takes good position at h6
Mark takes good position at h1
Reg smashes through h6 and goes to the middle of the E boundary
Mark takes closer position at h1

Well, nothing too exciting happening here at the moment. Bamford finished a very nice sextuple over an hour ago - 5 peels before 4-b. Burch is about to beat Sharpe who has had chances. Carter has 1 peel of his tp done and is at 3-b against Clarke who is on 1 and 4-b. French is having his second break against Berthouze (it's been a good day for my Fantasy team so far).
On lawn 1 Bamford is playing Todorovich and has just made a 1-b leave - I'll keep you posted on what happens
